Elan is a neuroscience-based biotechnology company headquartered in Dublin, Ireland. It was incorporated as a private limited company in December 1969 and became a public limited company in January 1984. Elan’s principal research and development, manufacturing and marketing facilities are located in Ireland and the United States.
Elan is organized into two business units: Biopharmaceuticals and Elan Drug Technologies.
Biopharmaceuticals
Biopharmaceuticals includes research, development, and commercial activities for neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease; autoimmune diseases, including multiple sclerosis and Crohn’s disease; and severe chronic pain.

Elan Drug Technologies (EDT) the world’s leading drug delivery business, develops and manufactures innovative pharmaceuticals using its extensive experience and proprietary drug technologies in partnership with pharmaceutical companies. For 40 years, EDT has enhanced the performance of dozens of drugs that are marketed and used by millions of patients worldwide.
